Fun puzzle game, but avoid it unless you have people to play with.

I played it with dudes at work, and it was fun. Playing it alone . . . not so fun. Playing it online. . . sorta fun, but too laggy.
Really, if you're not playing this with three other people sitting next to you, you're missing the point. Chu Chu Rocket is undoubtedly the world's most tense party/puzzle game, but it loses some of that frantic rush when you're going it solo. I mean, the single player puzzles are a nice diversion (and some are real brain teasers), but they're not... what this game is all about.
Sega must have known this, so they built an online play feature into the game. Only, the Dreamcast's online functions worked better as an idea than they did in practice. Whether due to poor internet connections or poor online implementation, I never found a smooth Chu Chu Rocket game session online, and that's a shame.
Still, as I look back at my Dreamcast library, I always count Chu Chu Rocket as one of the system's defining titles. I hope that it can be updated and introduced to modern gamers so they can experience the unique 4-player japanese-y chaos, complete with solid online implementation. If that day ever comes, I'll be one of the first to download.
